News & Events

Have a look at our Calendar of Events to be informed about upcoming courses and seminars held at Gaia-Oasis.  More information about the courses can be found in Open Groups and Seminars. Please contact the course leader directly for additional details.

In addition to group seminars & courses, Gaia-Oasis offers a daily healing session (usually incorporating mind & body awareness) free of charge 5 days a week.  To see what is available, please look at our Healing & MindBody Awareness section.

We also offer other sessions, some on a donation basis, depending on which practitioners / members are resident.  Donations go mainly to Gaia-Oasis' social and environmental program in Tejakula, which have just been launched.

Under Events you will get a list of major celebrations to be held in Bali in 2008.  These celebrations are generally very colourful and communal affairs, and are a good opportunity to see Balinese cultural life closer up.

Actual News:

  • Gaia-Oasis is becoming a Foundation or Yayasan!

At the last Gaia-Oasis member meeting in 24 - 29 October, members voted unanimously to make Gaia-Oasis a nonprofit foundation or Yayasan.  This means that Gaia-Oasis will continue to offer accomodation and other services to members and guests, but a large part of our profits will go towards social, cultural and environmental programs for the people of Tejakula and the surrounding villages.

Our Yayasan is in its infancy; however we have exciting plans for a reef restoration project, and we have already started to sponsor a mountain school in Tejakula for primary school children, as well as provide funds to help the temple singers in Tejakula perform (by invitation) on Bali TV.  We are also starting a pilot project in our Abasan hillside retreat, to move from monocultural farming to organic farming utilising permaculture principles, while reforesting the hill with native Balinese trees and introducing a greater variety of fruits, trees and vegetables.

  • Dancing lessons with Ibu Ni Luh Menek

We are very happy that Ibu Menek gives us the honour to teach Balinese Dance to our staff and interested guests - once or twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays, on request only.

Ni Luh Menek, born in 1939, belongs to the famous dancers of Bali. Together with other spectacular Balinese dancers she performed in “The Living Legends of Bali - A Festival of Bali's Great Dancers” in December 2004. Growing up in Jagaraga, Ibu Menek was a student of the famous Balinese dancers and composers Pan Wandres and I Gede Manik, who created the famous Taruna Jaya dance. Performing this dance, Ibu Menek got famous all over the island and danced even for Indonesia's first President Sukarno. Ibu Menek is living with her husband since her marriage in Tejakula.
