History

First settlement of Bali around 2000 BC. The first kingdom is dated to 990 AC. The higher Hindu class of Java, supressed by  Islam, retreated to Bali in 1478. The king of the thus developing Gelgel-Dynasty ruled Bali from Klungkung. In the following years,  Balis provinces became independent. Their rulers, the Radjas, became kings in their rights.

Holland occupied Bali from 1846 until 1942, after that Japan.annected the Island until 1945. On August 17th 1945, Indonesia declared itself independent and Bali is part of this country.
